MARGAO: Anshuman Agarwal and Trisha Verlekar won double crowns each while Sanmay Paranjpe and Mallika Gogoi walked away with the Men’s and Ladies singles titles, in the 50th Golden Jubilee edition of the All Goa Major Ranking Table Tennis Tournament, organized by MCC Sports Club under the aegis of Goa Table Tennis Association (GTTA), at MCC Krishna Karwarkar Hall, Margao on Sunday.
Sanmay, ranked India number 40 brought out his best to register an entertaining 4-1 win over Dheeraj Rai to win his second title for the season.
In Ladies final, Mallika Gogoi had a comfortable outing against Janvi Naik Dalal, winning 3-0 to wrest the crown.
Anshuman Agarwal won the sub junior and junior boys singles titles, overcoming his arch rival Shantesh Mapsekar in both these categories with identical 3-1 margins.
Trisha Verlekar hogged the limelight in the cadet and sub junior girls singles categories, winning both these titles.
The top seed disposed off Galya Fernandes 3-0 in the cadet final while in the sub junior final was much tougher.
After an engaging four sets battle, Trisha eventually prevailed 3-1 over Leoma Fernandes.
In sub junior boys final, Akshan Lawande hit a nice patch and rhythm to give top seed Aaron Farias a testing time. With two sets a piece and the match going neck-and-neck, Aaron showed better composure and temperament towards the end to grab the final set at 11-9 and win the match 3-2.
The match of the day was the junior girls singles final between top seed Prutha Parrikar and number two seed Sanisha Shetye which kept the spectators glued to their seats. Prutha played exceptionally well to come back from 2 sets to one deficit and edge out Sanisha Shetye 3-2.
Earlier, Ruchi Kirtani cruised past Bhuvi Karmali 3-0 while Rishan Sheikh lost a marathon set at 17-19 en route to a thrilling 3-1 win over Atharva Dhulapkar to win the mini cadet girls and boys singles titles respectively.
