MARGAO: Tuff Veterans prevailed over Raia Veterans, 5-4 via tie-breaker to storm into the final of All-Goa Nuvem Veteran’s football tournament organized by Parish Youth, Nuvem at Nuvem church ground, on Thursday.
Raia held the upper hand in the opening sessions and their forwards troubled the rival defence with sporadic raids. Raia nearly broke the deadlock but striker Pele Xavier’s try hit the cross bar much to the dismay of Raia players.
At the other end, Tuff were well served by former national and international players but looked extremely disjointed.
Crossing over, Raia continued to enjoy the better share of exchanges but their forwards shot wide much to the disbelief of Raia supporters.
Tuff took control over the match late in the second half with a former India captain Bruno Coutinho harassing the rival defenders with pot shots.
In the penalty shoot out, Bruno Coutinho, Lino Pereira, Allwyn Fernandes, Celestino Fernandes and Fausto Lobo were on target for Tuff while Luis Fernandes, John D’ Silva, Rosario Carvalho and Adriano Dias converted for Raia.
