MARGAO: United Boys of Dando-Colva rallied to hold Varca Sports Club to a 1-1 draw in the Salcete Zone GFA’s Third Division league at St John de Baptist Ground, Dando-Benaulim on Friday.
Varca Sports Club held upper hand in the opening sessions and raided the rival goal. Persistents forays paid off the dividends when striker Velroy Rodrigues bulged the net from close range.
Stung by the early reversal , United Boys of Dando –Colva regrouped quickly and instantly took the fight into the rival camp and fired a couple of salvos against the rival citadel. Their efforts bore the fruit when Cannuto Vaz neutralized the lead with a snap shot. Post resumption, United Boys of Dando put up a better display and trouble the rival defence well orchestrated raids but rival defenders stood tall in frustrating rival attacks.
With time running out, Varca Sports Club went all out but failed to get past the rival rearguard.

At Manora ground, Raia, Our Lady of Gloria Sports Club, Ilha de Rachol rallied from behind to hold St Sebastian Youth Club, Fatorda to a 2-2 draw. St Sebastian Youth Club led 1-0 at the breather .
St Sebastian Youth Club exhibited better display right from the word go. St Sebastian Youth Club shot into the lead in the very 1st minute when Rosley Fernandes slotted past the rival goalkeeper with stiff grounder. They could have scored more goals but their forwards strikers were guilty of muffing sitters.
Crossing over, St Sebastian Youth Club continued to enjoy the better share of exchanges. However Our lady of Gloria Sports Club striker Joeborn Fernandes put them on equal terms in the 51st minute.
Stunned by the equalizer, St Sebastian Youth Club intensified their forays with striker Wilson Dias once again notching the lead in the 69th minute. Our lady of Gloria Sports Club went all out and restored parity in the 79th minute when Walton Vaz punted the ball to the far corner of the net.
Full points for Verna
At Betalbatim Sports Complex, Verna Sports Club registered a fluent 3-1 win over St Rock’s Youth Club, Calata-Majorda 3-1. Verna Sports Club led 2-0 at the break. Verna Sports Club were a superior side as they played confidently and relied on short passing. Hilton Pereira drew the first blood for Verna Sports Club in the 23rd minute. Spurred by the success, Verna Sports Club teased and tormented the rival defence.
Albert Antao who was a thorn in the rival defence doubled the lead in the 32nd minute when he placed the ball into the nets.
After the break, St Rock’s reduced the margin in the 51st minute when Suraj Rasaiakar cleverly beat the rival goalkeeper with snap shot. Albert Antao drove the last nail into rival coffin in the 68th minute to complete his brace.
