COLVA: UB40, Colva defeated Leela Boys, Mobor 3-2 to lift the 2nd beach football tournament organized by Beach Boys, Colva, at Colva beach, on Monday. The teams were locked in a 2-2 draw at half time.
In the first half the teams dominated the proceedings but Leela Boys surged ahead through Shawn D’Costa’s solo effort in the sixth minute.
However, six minutes later, UB40 Boys bounced back with the equalizer through Cletus’ header off a cross by Raju. There after, Cletus doubled the advantage for UB40 Boys with a stiff grounder after an assist from Denzil Coutinho.
Leela Boys regrouped and made it 2-2 in the 21st minute through Shawn D’Costa.
Crossing over, UB40 Boys scored the all-important goal in the 40th minute through Nelson Gomes, who headed in off an assist by Cletus Pacheco.
Former PWD Minister Churchill Alemao was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of Francisco Cardoza, panch of the fourth ward Colva, Mumbai City FC player Brandon Fernandes, social worker Freddy Menezes and Flawin Baretto.
Jesus Cardoza welcomed while Anthony D’Silva compered the event. Francis Cardoza proposed the vote of thanks.
