PANJIM: United Club of Benaulim thrashed Dando Boys Club Benaulim 5-1 in the Goa Football Association Third Division League (Salcete Zone) match played at Benaulim ground, on Wednesday.
The GFA league campaign opened in style as both teams exhibited good brand of football and made regular inroads but neither sides were successful in breaking the deadlock.
The first 30 minutes saw Stanley and Kegan miss couple of chances for United Club. However, Dando Boys took a surprise lead in the 40th minute when they caught the rivals napping against the run of play and scored through Latif Shaikh.
Down by a goal, UC Benaulim regrouped and pressed the opponents in search of the leveller and deservingly scored the equaliser just before the breather through Linford Rodrigues.
Crossing over, United Club Benaulim inflated the lead through Stanley Fernandes in the 49th minute. Up by a goal, the United Club were all over the rival territory and smashed in three more goals. Keegan Rodrigues netted a brace in the 54th and 68th minutes while Jollson Afonso drove the final nail in the coffin of Dando Boys.
