BENAULIM: United Club Fatorda Veterans beat Navelim Veterans 1-0 to enter the semi-finals of the 18th V M Salgaocar Memorial Veterans tournament organised by Prime Sports Club, at St.John the Baptist Ground, Dando-Benaulim, on Saturday.
Fatorda surged ahead in the 9th minute when striker Vincent Barbosa took a fine pass from Remy Baretto and struck a low right footer which had no chance for the Navelim goalkeeper Donald Rebello.
Navelim also had a late chance in the first session but Salvador Bot shot wide from close distance.
After resumption, Navelim tried hard for the eqauliser through the efforts of midfielder Frank Fernandes and Claudius Dias but the Fatorda defence comprising of Agnelo Araujo, Agnelo Colaco and Jaku Fernandes was very effective to protect the slender lead and take their team through to the semis.
