MAPUSA: United Club of Nerul managed to edge past host St. Anthony’s SC, Marna-Siolim 3-2 to move ahead in the quarters of the St. Anthony’s Cup, at Siolim ground, on Wednesday.
Nerul opened their account in the 23rd minute when Anson D’Souza scored with a neat placement to give his side the lead.
Minutes into the match and Sherwin Lobo of Marna should have equalised with his power-packed shot on target, but the keeper brought a great save.
Sanket Jotkar doubled the lead in the 29th minute with a brilliant solo effort to make it 2-0.
On crossing ends, Marna came up with renewed ideas and scored two quick goals through Vipul Pednekar and Pushparaj Mandrekar to level terms.
When it looked the teams were heading for a penalty shoot-out Nerul scored the match winning goal in the 67th minute through Dwayne to make it 3-2.
