United Club of Nerul defeated St Anthony’s Sporting Club, Colva 2-0 to enter the quarter-finals of Gold Silver Trophy inter-village football tournament organised by Navelim Sporting Club at Rosary ground, Navelim on Thursday. All goals came in the first session.
Nerul dominated the proceedings right from the word go and attacked the rival citadel repeatedly.
St Anthony’s were a subdue lot as they could not combine as a cohesive unit.
Nerul were rewarded when Charles Pereira rocked the citadel with a pile driver in the 10th minute. They piled on the pressure with striker Charles Pereira striking the second time with a stiff shot.
Nerul continued to hold sway in the second session and fired sorties against the rival citadel but could not increase their tally due to inept shooting.
Yesterday, Sporting Club of Davorlim blanked Sarzora Sports Club 3-0.
