ANJUNA: United Club of Nerul beat Holiday Sports Club, Arpora 4-3 via sudden death in the North Goa match, at Anjuna ground, on Sunday.
Both the teams showed attacking intent right from the kick off and United Club of Nerul sounded a warning early in the game when Sanket outwitted couple of rival defenders and essayed a fine through pass to Saurav who with only rival goalkeeper to beat shot wide, much to the dismay of Nerul supporters.
Sanket who had a good game came close in foisting the lead with his speed and dash but fumbled at crucial moments in front of rival goal. At the other hand, Holiday Sports Club nearly broke the deadlock in the 18th minute when Shubham fed Paresh on the flank and the latter feeble shot found side netting. Holiday SC once again came close in surging ahead when Paresh’s well executed flag kick dipped inside the rival penalty box and Aropra goalkeeper Sidesh had no difficulty in collecting the ball. In 27th minute, Nerul earned a free-kick, Siddhant Naik’s well executed free-kick found
Canute in well position but he failed to beat the rival goalkeeper. Crossing over, United Club of Nerul enjoyed the better ball possession and got an opportunity when Saurav’s snap shot hit the crossbar. Sanket yet again created another chance from left flank and tried to shoot from long
distance, but his shot hit the cross bar.
In the 50th minute Nerul had a golden chance to wrap up the match but Saurav try miss the target narrowly after Devendra Pednekar put him on the platter.
Arpora missed a glorious chance when Gauresh’s laid a defence splitting pass to Paresh but he shot wide from hand shaking distance.
In the ensuing penalty shootout, Yashwant, Russel , Siddhant and Anant found the mark for United Club of Nerul while Shubham, Sahil and Paresh converted for Arpora
