PERNEM: Arambol villagers raised serious concerns over the lack of cleanliness at Armabol beach, migrant influx and shortage of water at the gram sabha, on Sunday.
Complaining that an unclean beach was spoiling the beauty of Arambol village, the villagers warned that the beach being the only touristic attraction in the village, the locals should not be surprised if the tourists stop flocking to the beach, a few years from now.
The gram sabha members wondered why the Arambol panchayat not seen interested in keeping the Arambol beach clean, when other local bodies keep their respective beaches clean.
Accusing the previous body of failing to maintain the beach, the locals demanded to know whether the new panchayat would take its responsibility seriously and maintain the beach clean.
Responding to the concerns of the people, sarpanch informed that the panchayat has already inspected the beach and assured to keep the beach clean.
On water shortage, the villagers demanded to know why Arambol was not getting sufficient water when Mandrem and Corgao were getting water throughout the day since last 20 years. The gram sabha members lamented that the authorities concerned were not bothered to solve the problem of water shortage.
To seek an answer for the water woes, the villagers had asked the panchayat to invite the local water engineer for the gram sabha, however, the panchayat failed to invite him. Later, the gram sabha instructed the panchayat to invite the engineer for the next gram sabha to answer their questions on the water shortage problem.
