CURTORIM/ MAPUSA: United Club of Telaulim defeated Curtorim Gymkhana 3-1 in the GFA First Division League match, played at Curtorim ground, on Friday.
Clinton Niasso was the star player for Telaulim as he scored a brace.
United Club of Telaulim started the match on front foot and had the chance to score in the second minute but Clinton Niasso missed the opportunity as his move was tackled by Curtorim Gym defender Frazier Rogtao.
Curtorim Gym U-20 Jesmon Soares tested the Telaulim keeper in the 4th minute with a power-packed shot which was saved by the rival keeper.
This could have been the best chance to score for Telaulim when Clinton Niasso took control of the ball from Jaison Dias and released a venomous strike from the top of the Curtorim box, but the rival keeper pulled off a stunning save to keep the score line intact.
Telaulium striker Jaison dribbled past couple of Curtorim defenders and sent in a through ball to U-20 Beneston Barreto, but the latter’s move was foiled by rival defender Benny D’Silva.
Clinton netted the first goal in the 16th minute for Telaulim. Telaulim doubled the lead within two minutes through Jaison Dias.
Jaison Dias had the chance to inflate the lead in the 21st minute but his shot missed the target by whiskers.
Curtorim Gymkhana pulled a goal back at the half-hour mark through Clifton Rebello. Clinton Niaso completed his brace in the 55th minute and scored the team’s third to make issues safe for his team.
At Cuncolim ground, ICSC Paroda and Vagator Parish Youth played out a drab draw.
At Duler Stadium, Mapusa, Salgaocar Football Club Juniors got the better of Penha de Franca 2-1.
At halftime Salgaocar led by a 1-0 margin.
After a series of missed opportunities, Salgaocar shot into the lead in the 24th minute of play when Sourabh Patil positioned himself perfectly inside the Penha de Franca 18-yard box to tap the ball home.
Crossing over Raju Padashi managed to level terms for Penha de Franca in the 55th minute of play.
When it looked like the match was headed for a draw Salgaocar came with the match winning goal in the late injury moments of the match through Ronaldo Oliviera.
