RAIA: United Club of Verna scrapped past United Sports Club of Seraulim 5-4 via tie-breaker to march into the quarter-finals of Fr Agnelo inter-village football tournament organised by Fr Agnelo Sports and Cultural Club, Paroda, at the panchayat ground, Avedem-Paroda, on Sunday.
In an evenly contested encounter, United Club of Verna dominated the first session. In the 12th minute, Roydon Rego brilliantly dribbled past the USC Seraulim defenders and netted the opening goal.
USC Seraulim regrouped well and launched continuous attacks on the UC Verna defence, eventually restoring parity in the 20th minute through Melroy Pacheco.
The second half saw both teams creating several scoring opportunities, but neither side managed to convert and the match ended in a 1-1 draw at the end of regulation time.
In the ensuing tie-breaker, Josley Fernandes, Johan Abranches, Roydon Rego and Esteberio Fernandes converted for UC Verna, while Oliver De Souza, Flacio Fernandes and Elroy Fernandes succeeded for USC Seraulim.
