MAPUSA: Unbeaten Salgaocar Football Club managed to register a hard fought 1-0 win over Youth Club of Manora in the Goa Professional League played at Duler stadium, here, on Tuesday.
After Tuesday’s match, Salgaocar FA climbed to the top position with 13 points after their fifth league match while YC Manora has 4 points from four league matches.
New entrants Manora managed to hold their elite opponents till the 27th minute when a curling free-kick from the left flank by Selwyn Miranda dipped into the far corner of the goal beating the Manora defence and keeper Luis Barretto.
Five minutes before the breather, Manora keeper Luis was in action as he brought an excellent save by pushing a stiff grounder at the first post off Stephen Alvares for a corner.
At the strike of an hour, YC Manora coach Roque Carneiro lost his cool and in the process received a caution for retaliation and immediately another caution and sending off from the bench for using foul language at referee Deep Govekar.
Salgaocar coach Levino Pereira used all his three substitutions bringing in Fhezer Gomes, Malappa Bizzargi and Valentinho Nazareth to bring more teeth in the attack while Manora coach Roque Carneiro also followed suit by bringing in Arvind Silva, Jason Barbosa and Rishabh Karapurkar.
In the 76th minute, Malappa connected Steflon’s pass which rattled the Manora cross bar with keeper Luis Barretto beaten.
Manora tried their best to find the equaliser and did come close in the 87th minute but a fine header by Jeh Williamson travelled just over the cross bar.
