Salgaocar Football Club has one of the finest grassroots
development programme in the State and no doubt has produced plenty of talent
over the years. One such talent is Sanson Pereira, the Salgaocar skipper, who impressed
the
club in the last couple of seasons for the greens in the Goa Professional League.
Sanson, at just 22, is the
captain
of the youthful Salgaocar team and is leading the side with example. Sanson has
shown himself and
Goa
to be one of the most exciting left backs in the State just three years after making
his senior debut in
2017.
Excellent in the air, his stuff challenges and ball winning abilities sets him apart
from the rest.
“He
(Sanson) is one of the most hardworking player in the team and I can justify this
as I have seen his
growth.
There is no doubt that he is a good defender but he is equally good in attack. His
dangerous ball
crossing
sets him apart from the rest,” stated Salgaocar
FC
Head Coach Levino Anthony Pereira who has watched Sanson grow at Salgaocar FC
for the last seven years.
Pereira
has been right with his statement about Sanson’s deliveries as Salgaocar FC has
scored most of their goals via set pieces (corners) wherein the skipper was
involved. Sanson’s tactical discipline and fitness means he
is
capable of joining the attack while never shrinking his defensive duties. The
talented and skillful youngster
has
not only assisted but scored couple of goals too. One from a direct free-kick while
other coming from an
open
play is an example of his contribution in attacking play. According to the
reports, Sanson’s consistent performance in past couple of years in the Goa
Professional League has caught the eyes of ISL side FC Goa,
whereinit
is learnt the Greens striker has been offered a two-year contract with the
Gaurs from 2020-
21
season. ““I worked hard and gave my best in the Goa Professional League. This
is a great opportunity to prove myself and my work. It would be a dream move to
an ISL club,” stated Sanson Pereira.“
There
is only one thing in my mind. To give my 100 percent and help the team achieve
their goals in the
ISL,”
added Sanson. At his time at Salgaocar, Sanson has played as a winger as well
as a full back
under
Coach Pereira, and he believes the youngster deserves to be in the ISL team. “Sanson
deserves to
climb
the ladders and play in the ISL. He can adapt to any situation and I don’t think
he will struggle there.
I
personally feel he will shine. He deserves his place in ISL team and not any
development teams,” stated
Pereira.
Time will tell whether the young full back make it big, this promises to be one
of an interesting storyline of next season.
