RAIA: United Club of Verna thrashed United Sports Club, Serualim, with a 4-0 victory, advancing to the quarterfinals of the 25th all-Goa Our Lady of Merces 8-a-side inter-village football tournament, organised by Sirlim Sports Club, at Chinchinim Church ground, on Tuesday.
The match began with both teams aggressively attacking. Verna’s Roydon missed an open tap-in in the 6th minute. Verna took the lead in the 21st minute with a goal from Sairon Albuquerque. Just two minutes later, Lenon Pereira extended Verna’s lead to 2-0 with a neat placement. Clifton Rebello’s powerful right-footer made it 3-0 in the 27th minute. At halftime, Verna led 3-0.
In the second half, Serualim launched an aggressive attack from the start. However, a mistake by Serualim’s goalkeeper Milton allowed Lenon Pereira to capitalise and score his second goal of the match, bringing Verna’s lead to 4-0. Despite efforts from Serualim’s Dickson and Savan, Verna’s goalkeeper proved to be up to the challenge, preventing any goals.
