RAIA: United Club Verna secured a spot in the quarterfinals by defeating Curtorim Gymkhana, 2-0, in the inter-village football match, organised by St Sebastian Union Club, at Dando ground, Benaulim, on Thursday. From the outset, Verna dominated play, with Eusebio and Clive Fernandes creating numerous scoring opportunities.
Despite their control, the first half ended goalless.
The breakthrough came in the 42nd minute when Clifton Rebelo scored on a rebound after a save by Curtorim’s keeper. Rebelo struck again in the 60th minute, sealing the 2-0 victory for Verna.
