Urmila, Tejas claim double crowns

Wesley, Mangesh, Tanisi, Eleanor win

Urmila Mense and Tejas Shevde claimed double crowns each at All-Goa Major Ranking Table Tennis Tournament organised by Panjim Gymkhana at Gymkhana hall, Campal, here on Thursday.
Urmila carried her fine form into the finals as she won both the
cadets as well as sub-junior girls events with comforable ease. In the cadet finals, she beat Arantxa Noronha 11-9, 11-7, 11-5 while in the sub-junior girls, she eased her way past R Aishwarya, 11-5, 11-4, 11-8.
Wesley Rosario continued his winning ways in the mini-cadets to claim his sixth straight title this season. The young sensation was all business as he thumped Varun Gangodkar 11-3, 11-5, 11-7. However, in the cadets, second seed Mangesh Sakordekar played an exceptionally well controlled game to shock Wesley 11-4, 9-11,
11-8, 11-9 to claim his maiden title of the season.
Tejas Shevde, Goa’s top paddler in the sub-junior and junior category, too claimed a double crown, winning his events in emphatic style. In the sub-juniors event, Tejas beat Yash Salgaonkar 12-10, 11-5, 11-8 although his younger opponent did manage to give him a scare in the first set.
In the junior boys event, Tejas scored an 11-4, 13-11, 11-6 victory over his second seeded opponent Krishal Peres to clinch the title.
In the other matches, Tanisi Kirani smashed her way to a 11-5, 11-5, 11-3 win over Vaishali Chandana while in the junior girls event,
Eleanor do Rosario beat Devika Sood 11-7, 11-9, 11-5 in another one-sided contest.
Richard D’ Souza (MD, Goa Forest Development Corporation) was the chief guest and distributed the prizes in the presence of  Narahar Thakur (jt. secretary, Panjim Gymkhana) and others. Prashant Kakode (secretary, Panjim Gymkhana) proposed the vote of thanks.
