PANJIM: Urvi Bandekar of New Educational Institute Curchorem and a student of Unique Chess Academy (UCA) won the Championship of Sanguem, Quepem and Dharbandora taluka open chess tournament, organized by Unique Chess Academy, Curchorem, recently.
Urvi scored 7.5 points out of eight and remained unbeaten throughout the tournament. Madgaonkar Pradyumn settled for the runner-up position while Naik Nivesh finished third.
The other standings are as follows: 4th Samarth Nasnodkar, 5th Harsh Sawant, 6th Ambar Dalal, 7th Shubh Borkar, 8th Tanishq Kavlekar, 9th Shriyash Madgaonkar, 10th Ishan Kakodkar, 11th Anirudhra Naik, 12th Prathmesh Dessai, 13th Sainee Dessai, 14th Hanumant Vast, 15th Kunal Bandolkar, 16th Veliben Fernandes 17th Sharanya Agrasani, 18th Agnesh Ghadi, 19th Narayan Vast and 20th Aftab Sheikh. Vibhuti Dessai was awarded the best Unique Chess Academy prize.
Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by chief guest Dattatray Prabhudessai, APO of Dharbandora in the presence of guest of honour John Fernandes, APO of Quepem sports complex; Amrut Naik; Sopan Kudchadkar and Sanjay Kavlekar.
For the closing ceremony, the prizes were given by chief guest Kishor Bandekar, secretary of Goa Chess Association and joint secretary of AICF in the presence of Ramdas Sawant GCA Treasurer, SAG chess coach Sanjay Kavlekar, Sopan Kudchadkar president of UCA, Amrut Naik VP (UCA) and Sushant Vaidya.
