MAPUSA: Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club scored two goals in each half as they drubbed Nagoa Sports Club 4-0 in a 7th Round GFA Second Division League football match at Sangolda ground, Friday.
Flavio Lopes HERE I COME: Vagator’s Rupesh Kotkar jumps over the ball as his teammate Stepelton Fernandes tries to snatch the ball from Nagoa’s Vishal Narvekar in a 7th Round GFA Second Division League football match at Sangolda ground, Friday. |
Nagoa started off on an attacking note and could have surged ahead in the second minute but Alitan Clemente’s close ranger went wide off a well measured free-kick from Shaikh Ali.
Subsequently, five minutes later, Alitan sent in a defence splitting pass to Bapu Pednekar inside the danger zone but the latter’s rasping shot was tipped over to safety by Vagator goalkeeper Soma Korgaonakar.
At the other end, Vagator played good short passes and built up momentum. They took the lead in the 23rd minute after captain Ryan D’Souza sent in a perfect low cross to unmarked Julius D’Souza, who slotted past Nagoa goalkeeper Pranau Amonkar from close range.
Julius could have scored another in the 27th minute but his long ranger was blocked by Pranau.
Nagoa tried hard to score the equalizer and their best chance came in the 33rd minute when Alitan set up Rakesh Kumar, and the latter tricked past the rival custodian but unfortunately failed to slot the ball into the nylons.
Vagator went on the offensive and doubled their advantage in the 41st minute. Ryan dribbled past rival defender Jeevan Singh and shot past the rival custodian.
After resumption, Nagoa squandered a golden opportunity to pull one back when Rakesh failed to capitalize on a goalkeeping error by Soma in the 50th minute.
Then onwards, Vagator dominated the proceedings as two back-to-back shots from Stepelton Fernandes and Ryan hit the horizontal in the 60th minute.
In the 78th minute, Ryan registered his brace with an adroit placement and later, substitute Lester Albuquerque joined the party in the 79th minute with a clever chip over onrushing Pranau.
However, Lester was cautioned by referee Savio Fernandes for his goal scoring celebrations, in which he removed his jersey.
With five minutes to go for the final whistle, Ryan could have scored his third but shot wide after beating the rival custodian.
Vagator defenders Russel Fernandes, Tukaram Corjuekar, Johan Almeida and Kalpesh Gadekar were outstanding in their department.
Vagator have now collected 12 points from seven matches while Nagoa have 14 points from the same number of matches.
