MARGAO: Vailankani Boys, Madel defeated St Sebastian Boys, Manora 2-1 to clinch the 2nd All-Goa 5-a-side football tournament organized by Forever Friends Club, Borda at Government Multipurpose School ground, Borda, Thursday. The teams were tied 1-1 at half time.
St Sebastian Boys held the upper-hand in the opening session and rocked the rival citadel when Anthony D’Souza beat the rival goalkeeper with a clinical finish.
Stunned by the setback, Vailankani Boys intensified their attacks and carried out umpteen forays into the rival territory. Malcolm found the equalizer when he picked up the ball from his own half and beat the rival goalkeeper with an adroit placement.
Post resumption, Vailankani Boys put up an improved display and tormented the rival defence with raids. The match-winner was scored by Slegan Fernandes.
Vailankani Boys received Rs 25,555 while St Sebastian had to settle for Rs 15,555.
Other prizes — First scorer of the finals: Anthony D’Souza (St Sebastiao Boys of Manora). Best player of the finals: Stanley Rodrigues (Vailankani Boys of Madel).
Vijai Sardesai, MLA was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of guest of honour Arthur D’Silva, chairperson MMC, Gonzago Rebello, Tito Cardozo, Dananjay Mayekar, Pratima Coutinho, Sangita Audi and Doris Texeira, councilors.
