MARGAO: Vailankani Boys, Margao blanked Young Boys of Goenchembhat 2-0 to emerge champions of Nagdolim Boys five-a-side mini-lightning football tournament organized by Nagdolim Boys, Velim at church ground, Velim, Sunday. There was no score at half time.
The teams displayed attacking soccer and kept the Sunday crowd on their toes. The teams had equal scoring chances but their forwards were erratic and shot wide a number of times. However, after resumption Vailankani Boys took control of the proceedings. Vailankani Boys broke the deadlock soon after resumption when Stanley Colaco bulged the net.
Stunned by the setback, Young Boys of Goenchembhat tried their best to equalize and exerted pressure on the rival citadel. Veteran midfielder Menino Fernandes made a couple of attempts at the rival goal which, however, yielded no result.
After a brief lull, Vailankanai Boys kept probing the rival defence with Vincy Furtado sealing the rival fate with a snap shot.
Vailankani Boys were richer by Rs 12,000 while Young Boys of Goenchembhat had to settle with Rs 10,000.
Rosario Fernandes was the chief guest and gave away the prizes.
