SIRIDAO: Vailankanni Merces entered the semi-finals of the 4th London Cup football tournament, organised by Siridao Sports Club, defeating Samurai Boys Velim 3-1, at River Plate Siridao Sports Club ground, on Wednesday.
Vailankanni Merces took the lead in the 15th minute through Paul. Samurai Velim dominated the match with better ball possession but failed to convert their chances.
Crossing over, Velim regrouped and tried to find the equaliser but they were denied by brilliant keeping by the rival keeper.
Desmond twice came close to score but his first attempt came off the cross bar while his second effort was easily collected by the rival keeper.
At the other end, Vailankanni Boys doubled the lead through Govind before Newton netted the third with a brilliant solo effort. Velim tried hard to score a goal and were awarded a penalty kick when Godfrey attempt was handled in the box by Vailankanni defender.
Stenly stepped over and coolly converted the spot kick.
