PANJIM: Vanxim Divar Dubai edged past Siolim United 6-5 via the tie-breaker in the final to clinch the late Ligorio Silveira Rolling Trophy in the football tournament organised by United Goans Dubai, in Dubai, recently.
At the end of regulation time, both the teams failed to open an account. In the first half, both the teams had equal number of chances but failed to net in as the defenders played a stellar role in protecting their citadel.
Crossing over, Vanxim Divar Dubai missed two golden opportunities of the match. First when Jonathan smashed a 30-yard shot straight towards the goal only to hit the crossbar while second when Mansoor spectacularly dribbled past three defenders and came close to the goal only to fire wide.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Vanxim Divar Dubai had the last laugh.
The winners received Dhs 4,000 (Rs 69,000) and a trophy while the runners-up took home Dhs 3000 (Rs 51,000) and a trophy. FC Bardez defeated Majorda FC for third place and received Dhs 2,000 (Rs 34, 500) while Majorda got Dhs 1000 (Rs 17,000).
