MARGAO: Varca Boys prevailed over Lambarda Boys, Borda-Margao 4-3 via tie-breaker to win 3rd All Goa Our Lady of Fatima Cup football tournament organized by Our Lady of Fatima Sports Club, Baida-Chinchinim, at Baida ground on Sunday.
Both the teams were locked goalless draw at the end of regulation period.
In a pulsating affair, the teams displayed attacking brand of soccer and kept the crowd on their toes. Both had equal number of chances but their forwards frittered away from ideal positions. The second session continued in same vein with the teams showing urgency and their forwards giving rival goalkeepers a harrowing time.
With time running out, they went all out but the defenders stood tall in protecting their citadel intact.
In the ensuing penalty shoot out, Columban Noronha, Faisinger Fernandes, Flossy and Mohammmed Shaik were on target for Varca Boys while Rocky Borges, Cliff Baretto, and Clencio Pinto found the mark for Lambarda Boys.
Varca Boys were richer by Rs 40,000 while Lambarda Boys had to settle for Rs 30,000.
Parish Priest of Our Lady of Hope Church, Chinchinim Fr Armando D’Souza was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of guest of honour Selwyn Fernandes, Dempo player.
Earlier, Mario Rebello, president of Our Lady of Fatima Sports Club welcomed while Judas Gomes, treasurer of the club proposed the vote of thanks. Mario Rebello also compered.
