MAPUSA: Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao scraped past Sodiem Siolim Sports Club by a 3-1 win to advance into the next round of the Nerul Soccer Cup, at Nerul ground, on Monday.
After a barren first half it was Sodiem who broke the deadlock in the 45th minute when Gaurav Vaigankar unleashed a powerful right-footer which slipped out of the keepers hands where Gaurav who was lurking nearby fired the ball home.
After some midfield play, Vardhan Haldankar managed to restore parity for Taleigao in the 52nd minute through a header while minutes later, Vardhan netted in his brace from close range.
Gautam Kankonkar made the issue safe for Taleigao in the closing stages of the match through a fine solo effort.
