PANJIM: Churchill Brothers FC have reappointed former coach Fernando Santiago Varela. This follows a decision by the club to part ways with Antonio Rueda after four matches in the I-league. Mateus Costa has since been the interim coach.
Varela, an Argentine-born Spaniard, was coach of Churchill Brothers in September 2020. Under his guidance, Churchill emerged as the runners-up of the 2020–21 I-League.
In March 2018, he was appointed head coach of Gokulam Kerala who he guided to the Kerala Premier League title but was sacked by the club. It was revealed that language was a problem as Varela didn’t speak too much in English.
