PANJIM: The Taekwondo Academy of Vasco excelled in the senior category by clinching five gold, four silver and 12 bronze medals at 23rd All-Goa State senior taekwondo championship conducted by Taekwondo Association of Goa, at Multipurpose hall, Ponda, on Sunday. They emerged runners-up in the team championship while their women’s team also secured the second spot.
Umesh Rathod clinched two gold medals while Bharathi Chauhan, Kavya Jadhav, Aishwarya Joshi and Mrithula Manian each, took a gold medal. The silver medallists were Priyaka Saroj, Bharthi Chauhan, Sapana Yadav and also Umesh. Ashutosh Sharma, Dharmaraj Rathod, Abdul Javali, Kavya Jadhav, Aishwarya Joshi, Mrithula Manian, Priyanka Saroj, Sophia Torgal, Vaishnavi Hulaginal, Savitha Telgi, Rashi Yadav and Bharthi Chauhan, all secured a bronze medal each.
The team has been trained by coach Mahadev Chavan, who is a black belt fourth dan. The gold medallists in respective categories will now represent Goa for the forthcoming Nationals. Whereas, the gold medal winners in senior division will participate for the Nationals to be held from September 3 to 6, in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
