LOUTOLIM: Vasco Veterans defeated Albert Developers Merces Veterans 2-0 to clinch the 6th All Goa Veterans Football Trophy, organised by Boys of Loutolim/ Camorlim in association with Jose Cookies Veterans at Savour of the World Church ground, Loutolim, on Sunday.
Vasco Veterans stuck to their strategy executed by Derrick Pereira when in the 6th minute Francisco shot for Vasco which was saved by the rival keeper.
The first goal came in through a placement shot from Uday Naik for Vasco in the 20th minute. The winners led 1-0 at the break.
Change of ends, Albert Developers regrouped themselves in search of an equaliser but Vasco Veterans defended resolutely.
Vasco Veterans found the nylons again in the second half through the header of Derrick Pereira off an accurate cross from Vincent Colaco.
This second goal brought vigour in the match as Albert Developers went all out to find the goal and they almost did it when the shot of Prem hit the cross bar and went out of play.
Chief guest Viola Pacheco gave away the prizes to winners and runners-up in the presence of guests of honour Parish Priest of Loutolim Church, Fr Salvador Carvalho Svd, Fr Michael Pereira Svd and other dignitaries.
Derrick Pereira bagged the best player of the tournament and Francis D Souza won the best player of the final award.
