VASCO: FC Goa scored a narrow 2-1 victory over Vasco Sports Club in a GFA Professional League match at Tilak stadium, here on Thursday. They led 1-0 at the break.
U-20 player, Leewan Castanha put FC Goa into the lead in the seventh minute and Malsawmtulluanga consolidated the lead in the 48th minute. Vasco put up a good defensive and managed to contain the rivals to some extent. They were successful in reducing the margin the 58th minute through Altamash Sayed.
Vasco threw everything in the attack as minutes ticked by in the second half, but the precious equaliser proved elusive. They went down fighting.
Vasco’s midfielder Altamash was given the marching orders by the referee after he received the second yellow card in the 86th minute. Leewan, Mevan and Hrithik of FC Goa were cautioned by referee Mizio Peixoto.
Leewan Castanha was adjudged the player-of-the match. The award was presented by Leo Rodrigues, Chairperson of Mormugao Municipal Council.
A fairly large crowd witnessed the league match which was held after nearly seven years. A brass band sponsored by Vasco Club was in attendance.
