MARGAO: Vasco Sports Club blanked Churchill Brothers 2-1 in the Taca Goa Under-20 football tournament organized by GFA at outside PJN Stadium, Fatorda, on Thursday.
In the first 30 minutes, both the teams made their best efforts to score the goals. Vasco almost scored in the 12th minute but London Singh’s left footer hit the upright of Churchill Brothers goal and went out of play off a well measured pass by Kingslee Fernandes.
Three minute later, Churchill Brothers’ Aldrich Coelho unleashed a vicious shot off a pass from Clinton Fernandes but was timely cleared by Jayward Dias of Vasco. Vasco took the lead in the 34th minute when Kingslee after receiving a pass from London shot straight home.
Change of ends saw the teams trying to score the winning goals. Vasco doubled their score again through Kingslee in the 55th minute to complete his brace. Melroy Dias assisted in the goal.
Churchill Brothers reduced the margin in the 64th minute with the efforts of Aldrich off a long range shot supplied by Clinton.
Thereafter, Vasco missed a chance in the 70th minute when Biswageet Rajput shot kissed the crosspiece and went out of play.
Speaking to Herald post match, Vasco Sports Club Coach Eban Mesquieta expressed happiness with his team’s performance and playing as per game plan.
He further added that they should have won with a bigger margin but missed the sitters in both the sessions.
Churchill Brothers Coach Joao Rebello said his team played well but the strikers shots were saved by the opponent goalkeeper and atleast three hit the upright as they came close to scoring.
