RAIA: Vasco Veterans defeated Pernem Veterans, 1- 0, to earn a spot in the semi-finals of the all-Goa Late Clement Memorial Veterans Football tournament organised by Youth of Fatrade, being played at Varca ground, on Wednesday.
Pernem found themselves on the defensive for much of the game, yet Vasco failed to capitalise on their dominance as the first half ended without any goals.
After the breather Pernem got going but Rohidas shot over bar. In the 35th minute of the match Pernem goalkeeper Bharat Morji brought off a super save to deny Raju Carvalho of Vasco. As the match was heading towards the fag end, Pernem defender handled the ball in the penalty box and Sheikh Niazi converted the resulting penalty into a goal to enter semi-finals.
