UTORDA: Velsao Sports and Cultural Club registered a fluent 2-0 win over Panjim Footballers in the Goa Football Association Goa Professional League match played at Sports Authority of Goa ground, Utorda, on Thursday.
The winners scored a goal in the either half of play as they recorded back to back wins to take their points tally to 17 points from 16 games while Panjim Footballers suffered consecutive defeat and have 11 points from 16 games.
Velsao SCC started the match on a positive note with Bersal Viegas and Myron Borges commanding the Velsao SCC play and the South Goa side took the lead in the eighth minute Laiwang Bohaam who on receiving the pass from the midfield, made no mistake to send his team ahead in the game.
Panjim Footballers also enjoyed some brisk moments in the game but their strike force lacked creativity. Velsao SCC Krishnath Shirodkar and Bersal Viegas went into the referee’s books for reckless tackles in the first session.
In the second half, Velsao SCC were dominated by Panjim Footballers which compelled the Velsao coach to replace Kashinath, who was already on a yellow with Remedias.
With no much improvement, the coach made the second substitution bringing on Suresh in place of Manjunath upfront and the South Goa side responded with a well build up goal in the 65th minute through Joseph Pereira.
The second goal killed the hopes of any comeback as Velsao Sports and Cultural Club then defended in numbers till the end of the final whistle.
