Thereafter, Akash Kudnekar sent a square pass to unmarked Chaitan Dabholkar who had just goalkeeper Rahul at his mercy, but he shot out.
It was much against the run of play that Velsao forged ahead in the 20th minute as a fierce strike from Under-20 Shario Gomes deflected off a defender and landed in.
In the closing stages of the first session, Sesa had two chances to level terms but goalkeeper Rahul dived to collect Velrose’s strike from outside the penalty box and later, Velrose shot wide.
Sesa came back strongly after the break and, after much probing finally equalized in the 58th minute as they were awarded a penalty after Velsao’s Sunny Kumar had handled the ball inside the danger zone, prompting referee Deepraj Sangelkar to point to the penalty spot. Sesa’s substitute Mahammad Faheez stepped forward and scored 1-1.
Sesa could have taken the lead but Kunal’s strike off Mahammad was brilliantly blocked by Velsao goalkeeper Rahul.
Velsao scored two more quick goals in the 65th and 70th minutes. Imran Khan connected a K Vinoth pass which deflected off a defender into the goal. Later, Vinoth collected a pass from substitute Meuton Fernandes and placed the ball home for a 3-1 lead.
Five minutes before the hooter, Meuton Fernandes’ strike rebounded off the Sesa post.
Velsao’s goalkeeper Rahul was rightly adjudged man-of-the match. Coach Eban Mesquita praised the goalkeeper for his superb efforts which demoralised Sesa and helped his team to record a victory against their much superior opponents.
