MAPUSA: Unbeaten FC Goa came from a goal down to hold bottom placed Salgaocar FC to a 1-1 draw in the Reliance Foundation Development League match at Guirim ground, on Friday.
FC Goa are at the top with 16 points from six matches, while Salgaocar languish at the bottom with 4 points from seven matches.
Salgaocar started brightly and went into the lead in the very 2nd minute after the breather with substitute Sydney Gauncar scoring from inside the penalty box.
It was Salgaocar’s custodian Tanesh Kankonkar, who time and again, came to his team’s rescue as he brought two smart saves off Salgeo Dias and Delton Colaco in the first session and on crossing over halted a firm header from substitute Leewan Castanha.
FC Goa restored parity in the 87th minute as a cross by Anthony Fernandes was brilliantly converted by Laitonjam Singh. Just a minute later a rasping shot by Anthony Fernandes rebounded off the Salgaocar crossbar.
In the added time, Young Gaurs defender Leewan Castanha gave a backpass to his goalkeeper Bob Jackson Raj who handled the ball inside the penalty box but it was surprisingly overlooked by referee Deeparaj Sangelkar as well as assistant referee Pravin Naik. A strong appeal from the rival players and team officials was surprisingly turned down by the referee.
At Sirsaim ground, Sesa FA were held to a 1-1 draw by Dempo SC.
Sendy Mangte opened the account for Sesa in the 32nd minute while ten minutes later Dempo’s Sairon Albuquerque levelled the score.
In the third match at Ela ground, Old Goa, Velsao beat Churchill Bros 2-0. Ronaldo Pereira opened the account in the 38th minute and Sunny Kumar rounded off the tally in the 69th.
