RAIA: Verna Sports Club entered the finals of 33rd All-Goa St. Anne’s inter-village football tournament for late Maria Anastasia Fernandes Trophy defeating Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda, 5-4 via the tie-breaker at Animal Husbandry ground, Curti-Ponda, Wednesday.
The match ended in a goalless draw at full time. Verna ‘s goalkeeper Royal Moniz deservedly won the man-of-the match award for his superb saves during the regular time.
Fatorda could have taken the lead in the 5th minute lead as Hanslam sent a pass from the flank to Richie Vaz but the later’s try was saved by the diving Verna goalkeeper.
Later, Cliff Barreto’s was kept out by the rival goalkeeper. At the other end Verna’s Desmon shot out with the goalkeeper out of position.
In the tie-breaker Andrew John, Sairon Albuquerque, Savio Pereira, Fulgancio Cardozo, Desmond Pereira scored for Verna. Roque Borges, Charles Miranda, Clive Miranda, Velton D’Souza scored for Don Bosco.
Paulo Vaz gave away the man-of-the match award to goalkeeper Royal Moniz of Verna.
