Striker Vigal Rego struck a brace as Verna Sports Club thrashed Parish Youth, Nuvem 4-0 in GFA Third Division league at Verna ground, on Monday. Verna led 2-0 at half time.
Verna dominated the match and their defence was compact with promising players in their ranks.
Verna finally broke the deadlock when Wilson Fernandes beat the rival goalkeeper with a blistering right footer.
At the other end, Nuvem struggled and were on the backfoot as they could not make a noteworthy move that hardly troubled the rival defence.
Verna doubled the lead when Anthony Rego put the ball to the far corner of the net after picking up a ball from his own half.
The second half belonged to Verna as they tormented the rival citadel with sharp raids. Vigal Rego made it 3-0 in favour of Verna in the 47th minute. Vigal hammered the final nail into Parish Youth’s coffin with a neat placement and also registered his brace.
At St John Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, Cavelossim Youth Association fought gallantly to beat United Boys of Dando, Colva 2-1. There was no score at half time. After a barren first half, United Club went into the lead in the 60th minute when Colax Vaz bulged the net.
Stung by the setback, Cavelossim neutralised the lead through Alex Rodrigues in the 85th minute. Shridhar Dable struck the match-winner in the 89th minute.
