NUVEM: Verna SC eased past Sao Jose de Areal 4-1 to move into the quarter-finals of the 5th Panchayat Cup inter-village football tournament, organised by Parish Youth Nuvem, at Jesus Mary Joseph Church ground, Nuvem, on Thursday.
Despite scoring four goals, it was Verna goalkeeper Shubert Moniz, who was the star of the match as he pulled off stunning saves. Verna took the lead in the 12th minute through Desmond half volley.
Minutes later, Desmond missed a great chance as he shot wide with only the keeper at his mercy.
In the 22nd minute, Desmond scored for Verna with a sublime finish to give his side a two goal lead at the break.
Two minutes into the second half, and Verna scored their third through Usapio.
Areal pulled a goal back through Bersal.
Savio scored Verna’s fourth in the dying minutes of the game.
