MARGAO: Verna Sports Club came from behind to down CRC Chinchinim 3-2 in the Goa Football Association (GFA) U-16 League match played at Artificial Turf ground, Fatorda, on Wednesday.
It was a tale of two halves at Fatorda as Chinchinim dominated the first half but Verna outplayed their opponents in the second half.
Coming into the game, Verna SC dominated the early minutes of the game with Chryler Melo and Nash Rebello commanding the play. But much to their surprise they were stunned in the 20th minute when Valanko found Tabrez Mannur who made no mistake in slamming the ball into the net.
The goal changed the scenario of the game as out of nowhere, CRC Chinchinim dictated the play and minutes later doubled the account through Khaja Makandar to make it 2-0.
Verna SC had their chances but CRC Chinchinim keeper Ansh Gadkar pulled off two saves to deny Verna SC.
Crossing over, it was Verna SC once again who started the match brightly and kept their composure and Lume Colado pulled their first in the 40th minute.
CRC Chinchinim’s defender Cidroy Pereira, who was outstanding in the first half failed to stop the Verna SC strike force as they attacked in numbers. Aren D’Souza levelled terms in the 51st minute before Nash Rebello netted the match winner in the 65th minute.
At Don Bosco Oratory ground, Fatorda, DBO Fatorda scored a fluent 4-2 win over Youth Welfare Sports Club Assolna. Richie Vaz scored a brace for the winning side whole Sufreh Khan and Rahul Sharma were the other goal scorers for the winners. Nesh Diniz and Jossey Fernandes managed to score for the losing side. The winners led 2-1 at the breather.
