VARCA: Verna Veterans got the better of Pernem Veterans by a solitary goal to enter the quarter-finals of the 2nd all Goa Clement memorial veterans football tournament, organised by Youth of Fatrade, at Varca SC ground, on Sunday.
Pernem had the best chance to score in the seventh minute through Niclau Fernandes, but the lad’s effort was saved by Verna keeper Anand.
However, in the 17th minute, Verna Veterans scored the only goal of the game through Manuel D’Mello with a placement shot.
Pernem had their chances but failed to capitalise. Pernem’s Niclau Fernandes bagged the man of the match award.
