MARGAO: Hosts Verna Sports Club rallied from behind to defeat Varca Sports Club 5-4 via the tie-breaker to enter the semi-finals of all Goa Verna Panchayat Cup inter-village football tournament, organized by Verna Sports Club, at Verna ground, Thursday.
Both the teams were locked 1-1 draw at the end of regulation time.
Varca struck in the very first minute when Nigel Pires bulge the net. Tensed looking Verna made couple of forays into the rival territory and their efforts bore the fruit in the 15th minute when striker Santan Rego punished the rival goalkeeper with a clinical finish.
Crossing over, Verna had couple of scoring chances but their forwards squandered open chances while Varca managed just three.
In the ensuing penalty shoot out, Manuel Moniz, Basil Rego, Santan Rego and Stanley Pereira were on target for Verna while Vilroy D’Cruz, Elvis Fernandes and Clive Vaz scored for Varca.
