Victorino double takes 5-star Sporting past Vasco

Glan, Joseph and Francis add to Flaming Oranje’s tally; The Panjim team move to second spot with fourteen points, while Vasco are on seventh position with nine points

MAPUSA: Sporting Clube de Goa registered a thumping 5-0 win over Vasco Sports Club in the GFA Goa Pro League match, at Duler Stadium, on Friday.
The Flaming Oranje scored at regular intervals through Joseph Pereira (32’), Victorino Fernandes (35’ and 64’), Glan Martins (39’) and Francis Dadzie (54’).
The winners showed they meant business right from the start of the match where in the early minutes Dadzie positioned himself well but twice failed to guide in the low crosses of Victorino and Joseph.
Four minutes later, Francis himself unleashed a powerful 30-yard shot which travelled inches past the Vasco target.
The consistent attack put forth by Sporting Clube de Goa finally paid dividends, where in the 32nd minute Victorino made a fine run into the heart of the Vasco penalty area and set up Joseph Pereira who placed the ball to the far corner of the nets, 1-0.
Vasco tried to claw their way back into the match through some fine moves on the flanks, however Frank Kouassi let them down time and again.
Victorino Fernandes doubled the lead for Sporting in the 35th minute of play when his long range effort crashed into the back of the Vasco goal, 2-0.
Hardly had Vasco recovered from the two goal set back, four minutes later Glan Martins put Sporting up by 3-0 when he guided in the ball from close range.
Minutes before the halftime whistle Vasco once again came attacking but the Sporting defence along with their keeper Kamaljit Singh, who made his first appearance of the season between the sticks, did a fine job to cut off the effort of Frank Kouassi and Kingslee Fernandes in the bud.
On resumption of play, Sporting were once again all over the rival camp initiating a series of raids with substitute Seriton, Victorino and Francis at the helm of affairs.
In the 54th minute the Oranje were awarded a penalty kick after the Vasco defender was found guilty of handling the ball inside the 18-yard box, where Francis Dadzie made no mistake in converting, 4-0.
When it looked that Sporting Clube de Goa would stop at that, Victorino once again got into the act of scoring when he tapped home the ball after Francis Dadzie had done the spadework, 5-0.
Vasco were totally overpowered by the Panjim team till the final whistle.
