PANJIM: Vinayak Gaonkar emerged champion in the chess tournament organised for boys of Matruchhaya’s Bal Kalyan Ashram, Talaulim, by the Ponda Taluka Chess Association, recently.
Narayan Pagad, Hardik K C, Shaurya Naik, Sandeep Salgaonkar and Vinod Chalwadi were the other winners from second to sixth.
Arbiter for the tournament was chess coach from Ponda taluka Milind Gaude.
Joint Secretary of Ponda Taluka Chess Association Sandesh Naik was present for the prize distribution function which was held at the prayer hall of the ashram. Others present were – committee members of Matruchhaya’s Bal Kalyan Ashram, Talaulim, Sanjay Nadkarni (Sports incharge), Naguesh Phadte (senior member), Prajakta Chitale (treasurer) and Mrunal Samant.
President of Ponda Taluka Chess Association Sagar Sakordekar congratulated and thanked Gaude for the initiative.
