RAIA: Virabhat moved past Corjem 5-2 to enter the semi-finals defeating Eklate FC 6-4 via tie-breaker in the 9-a-side football tournament organised by Batora United, at St Alex Church ground, Curtorim, on Monday.
Both teams gave their best in front of above 500 spectators. Caitan Viegas of Virabhat opened the scoreline in the 12th minute. Six minutes later, Venson Paes doubled the lead for Virabhat.
Corjem should have netted through Malcolm but missed the target by whiskers in the 20th minute.
As the match progressed in the second half, Josbern Fernandes netted the third goal for Virabhat, while Malcolm pulled a goal back for Corjem in the 38th minute. Virabhat netted 4-1 through Venson Paes.
Then Corjem through Rhay made it 2-4. It was Anslem Fernandes of Virabhat who netted the fifth goal 5-2 for Virabhat, with just a minute left for the final whistle. The man-of-the-match was awarded to Venson Paes of Virabhat by Edmon Dias.
