Visakhapatnam Port were leading at All India Major Ports Chess and Carrom Tournament

PANJIM: Visakhapatnam Port were leading at All India Major Ports Chess and Carrom Tournament which began at the premises of Mormugao Port Trust, Headland, Sada, Wednesday.

Results at end of 5th round: Visakhapatnam 16 points, Mumbai Port Trust 13.5 points,  Chennai Port Trust 12.5, Mormugao Port Trust 11,  Kandla 9.5, JNPT 9, New Mangalore Port 6.5 and Ennore Port 2.

Carrom: In the semi-final Chennai Port will clash with Vizag Port and Mumbai Port will play against Kandla Port.

In the veterans carrom Category, C H Rama Babu defeated Ganesh Acharya to enter the quarter-finals. Dinesh Lalwani defeated Ramesh Chawan, G. Gunashekeran got the better of T.S. Kumblekar to qualify for the semi-final.

Earlier, the secretary of MPT,  R.P. Paibir, the chief guest, inaugurated the tournament.

The guests of honour were Kuncheria, Chief Mechanical Engineer, Prema Kumar President, Ulhas Phaldesai, secretary, Milind Desai, treasurer of MPSC.

Officials: M.R Naik chief arbiter (chess), chief referee Abhay Kharande (carrom).

The closing ceremony will be held on January 19 at 5.30 p.m.
