PANJIM: VMS College of Law, Miramar won the 1st inter-college/higher secondary six red snooker team championship defeating St Xaviers College, Mapusa at the BSAG Cue Sports Academy in Bambolim.
VMS College of Law sprung a surprise by defeating in form St Xavier’s, which was led by Sushant Morajkar who represented Goa at the Nationals.
It was nail biting final that was decided on the doubles match, after both the teams won each of the singles.
Sushant Morajkar of St Xavier’s took the lead by winning the first singles against Himanshu Patil 51-24, 31-27 before Amit Kale levelled the scores with a 30-19, 43-34 win over Celvin Afonso.
In the deciding doubles, Law college held their nerve to snatch a 2-0 win and lifted the trophy.
The first ever inter college/higher secondary team championship saw a tremendous response with 14 teams participating to win the prestigious trophy.
Siddharth Kunkolienkar, ex Panjim MLA and Chairman of the EDC, gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up.
