Former Pakistan pacer Wahab Riaz has shown interest in coaching the national women’s team following their disappointing World Cup campaign. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly exploring other options before making a final decision.
According to PTI, the PCB has not yet appointed a new head coach and denied reports suggesting Riaz was asked to take over. “Wahab has been working as a consultant with the PCB across different teams but hasn’t been given a new assignment yet,” an official told PTI.
The Fatima Sana-led Pakistan side endured a forgettable Women’s World Cup, finishing at the bottom of the table without a single win — a result that led to head coach Muhammad Wasim’s contract not being renewed.
Meanwhile, the PCB is said to be in talks with two foreign coaches, though no deal has been finalised. If those negotiations fall through, former women’s captain Bismah Maroof could be among the top local contenders.
The tournament saw India lift their first-ever women’s ICC title with a 52-run victory over South Africa at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
