After nine games – 10th position, five games later Churchill Bros rise to sixth in the league standings. It was expected with the arrival of a new leader. None can deny the fact that the arrival of Derrick Pereira made the transition in the past few games.
Churchill Bros play Aizawl FC, Mumbai FC, Bengaluru FC and Chennai City FC in the final four games, with the I-League title out of sight, the Gaffer aims for a top five finish.
“At this moment I can’t say anything. When I took over I decided to take one match at a time. I prefer the team to play match by match.”
“My aim is to first avoid relegation then to collect as many points as possible and would want to finish in the top half of the league,” he exclaimed.
“When I joined the team, we were at the bottom and the remaining nine matches, the team had to do better and collect as many points as possible to avoid relegations. I have to do better than Mumbai FC as the other franchise teams are immune to relegation,” said Churchill Brothers FC Coach Derrick Pereira.
“The team looked good from outside. Though they had some flaws and few areas to improve, my aim was to see that the team gels well and also make sure that the players play for the team and not for themselves,” added the Vasco based gaffer.
Despite his role as the head coach, Derrick was thankful to Alfred Fernandes for building a strong team during the crises.
