PANJIM: WCM Riya Sawant of Goa participated in the 12th Dubai Juniors Chess Championship organised by the Dubai Chess and Culture Club at Dubai recently.
WCM Riya Sawant won all her four rounds defeating Alhanoof Saeed from UAE, Singh Gurmeher, from India, Talal M. Alhammadi from UAE Sharjha and Ali Abdulaziz from UAE Dubai, respectively.
However, in the fifth round she lost to Licheli Luka of Georgia. She however bounced back and defeated Mosallam Mohammad of UAE Sharjah and Kokaia Guram of Georgia securing six points settling in joint second position alongwith other five players.
In the eight and ninth round, she lost to Vojdani Siavosh from Iran and FM Gadimbayli Abdulla from UAE finishing with six points, securing the 15th rank.
A total of 143 players participated from around Asia in the tournament which was conducted as per FIDE Laws of Chess.
