Thump Tarun Bharat in the final by 32 runs; skipper Sarvesh scores a fine half century

PANJIM: Herald Group were top of their game as they registered a comfortable 32-run victory over Tarun Bharat to clinch the late Vijay Gad memorial inter-media cricket tournament, organized by Sports Journalists Association of Goa (SJAG), at SAG ground, Campal, here, on Saturday.
Tarun Bharat won the toss and put their opponents to bat. 
Relying on a brilliant 32 ball 51 runs by man-of-the-match and skipper Sarvesh Veluskar, Herald posted a mammoth 112/2 in the stipulated 10 overs. He hit eight boundaries and was well supported by opening partner Shailesh Zantye’s 32 while Anant Bakhle managed a quick 17 not out in the final overs to give his team the much needed confidence. 
In reply, Tarun Bharat managed to score 80 for the loss of five wickets. Aftab Sheikh was successful, claiming two wickets for eight runs. 
Dr Shekhar Salkar, president of Goa Cricket Association was the chief guest for the prize distribution function and gave away the prizes in the presence of Rajesh Gad, son of late Vijay Gad, who sponsored the winner’s trophy. Former president of SJAG, Sharad Naik was also present.
President of SJAG, Sudhakar Naik welcomed. Secretary Kishor Petkar proposed the vote of thanks while treasurer Mangesh Borkar compered.
Brief scores: Herald 112 for 2 in 10 overs (Sarvesh Veluskar 51, Shailesh Zantye 32, Anant Bakhale 17 not out. Anil Bandiwadekar 1-19) beat Tarun Bharat: 80 for 5 in 10 overs (Anil Bandiwadekar 29, Anil Kalekar 24, Sarvesh Veluskar 1-20, Aftab Sheikh 2-8, Datta Murgaokar 1-2).
Individual prizes were awarded to Man-of-the-final, Man-of-the-series and Best batsman Sarvesh Veluskar (Herald), Best bowler Flavio Lopes (Herald), Best fielder Harshad Sawant (Gomantak), Best wicket-keeper Anil Kalekar (Tarun Bharat), Best all rounder Vipul Pawar (Goa Doot), Best catch Vilas Mahadik (Gomantak).
