FATORDA: Goals by Emilino Alfaro and Jonathan Lucca succumb FC Goa to their first ever home defeat in the Indian Super League season four, at Nehru Stadium, here, on Saturday.
Speaking to the media at the post match press conference, FC Goa head coach Sergio Lobera said, “Today we didn’t lose because of the referee, we lost because of ourselves. Referee isn’t responsible for the loss. It was very tough for us because of the physicality of the game. We couldn’t hold on to the ball that’s what hurt us the most because we are a team that likes to hold on to the ball.”
He said, “We had different moments in the game and had the first chance to get ahead in the game, if we had scored in the initial moments it would have been completely different.”
“We weren’t effective today. We weren’t comfortable as moments passed by. We tried to score under pressure, as a result we let our style of play go and it made us difficult for us to create chances,” he added.
Further, the Spainiard said that the Gaurs still have a lot of work to do in the league.
“We still have a lot of work in the league. We lost the opportunity to go up ahead on top of the other teams. We need to improve on our mistakes. We need to grab the three points in the next match. If we aren’t 100 per cent you won’t win the league.”
FC Pune City coach Ranko Popovic was delighted with the three points in the league as he exclaimed, “It is very important to win! We get better and better. The game was an open one and both had equal chances. This was probably the best game because we played against one of the best teams in the league.”
